Litepanels keeps "Survivor" Real
"Survivor is a 24/7 show and significant moments of drama occur in the dark," says Emmy-nominated cameraman Derek Carver.
"Shooting in infrared has been an essential part of the show since the beginning but until I discovered the Litepanels IRs, the available on-camera IR lights were less than satisfactory.
"When I saw that Litepanels had added an IR unit to their Mini panel range, I ordered two to try for the show and they have done a great job creating a soft, even, dimmable fill.
"I also got my hands on one of the 1x1 panels as soon as they were available," he adds. "Now I can't think of a shoot where I wouldn't have used it."
Survivor often features bringing the cast on "rewards" locations that are difficult to access or that have limited space, making generators impractical. "No other lighting unit can give me the amount and quality of light that the 1x1 panels do running on snap-on camera batteries.
"Since my first experience with the Litepanels Mini as an on-camera fill light for reality show coverage, I haven't been without them. The Litepanels are an essential part of my lighting kit – and, whether we're in Palau, China, Fiji, Panama, Guatemala, Vanuatu or anywhere else – I keep them close!"
