Papadimas AVL started its course in the field of professional sound, lighting and picture in 2014. The founder, Panagiotis Papadimas, combined his studies in Electrical and Computer Engineering with the knowledge and experience he gained at Papadimas Sound Services to go on and create a contemporary company that aims to offer high level services in its sector.
Shiny-floor shows are currently enjoying a resurgence. Networks and streamers are investing heavily in non-scripted shows to meet the immense demand for upbeat, nostalgic, and energetic entertainment following the subdued Covid years.
Papadimas AVL has strong credentials in entertainment television, working on the national versions of global hits such as “The Masked Singer”, “The Voice” and “Big Brother”. Producing big entertainment hits means constantly pushing the boundaries of broadcast technology, when it comes to lighting the new tech-driven innovative formats, they naturally turn to Litepanels.
Panagiotis Papadimas is part of an Athenian dynasty of audio-visual solutions providers for television, concerts, and theater. His father and uncle found the company in 1991 as Papadimas Sound Services. Following studies at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology at the University of Patras and with the knowledge and experience gained at Papadimas Sound Services, Panagiotis expanded the technical expertise offered by the company to create Papadimas AVL.
New lamps for old
Papadimas selected Litepanels’ Gemini 2x1 Soft LED panels to replace older analogue tungsten fixtures and currently have over 230 units in their inventory. All of the Geminis were supplied by Litepanels’ long-term partner in the region: Athens-based broadcast systems provider and integrator Telmaco SA, with particular support from Lighting Technical Engineer, Mr Panagiotis Kokoris.
With a low nominal power draw of just 325W, the Gemini lights are more efficient to run than any tungsten equivalent yet offer 1000 lux of output (at 3m) of tungsten, daylight or, with a CCT range of 2,700K to 10,000K, any color temperature in-between. Other practical benefits also played a part in the selection. “The built-in power supply means only one cable, that combined with the light weight makes it fast and simple to rig.” Says Panagiotis. “The onboard menu system is convenient to reach, and intuitive to control white light output and a wide range of colors and effects.”
The wide range of colors numbers over 16 million beautifully rich hues. In addition, a digital library of 300 industry-standard gels can be used over daylight or tungsten base white light to create hundreds more color options. The creative versatility is perfect for Papadimas to light the visually spectacular touring shows of the greatest performing artists and singers in Greece and projects such as “The Phantom of the Opera” and “All Star Verdi Gala” at the renowned Panathenaic Stadium in Athens.
Primed for success
Papadimas are equally at home in historic Olympic stadiums as the dazzling, hi-tech studios of prime-time television entertainment. Their expertise has helped to light shows such as “The Voice of Greece”, “Just the 2 Of Us”, “Greece Got Talent”, “The Masked Singer”, “Top Chef”, and “Game of Chefs” to name but a few.
“The ability to combine four units together with the Quad Stacking Kit to create an outstandingly bright soft light source when needed means the Gemini 2x1 Soft lights are some of the most versatile in our inventory.” Says Panagiotis. A Dual Stacking Kit to mount two units together is also available.
In demand, and here to stay
Since adding Gemini to their inventory, Papadimas has seen demand for the fixture boom. “It has been demanded on almost every rider we receive since we introduced the light to our customers.” Says Panagiotis.
To meet the ever-expanding demand for high-quality, epic entertainment content, Papadimas continue to provide TV customers with great services and state-of-the-art equipment. “We know Gemini is a product that is here to stay.” Says Panagiotis. “We expect them to be used on all of our big TV projects.”
